THEY STILL TRY TO KEEP THE REINS ......

J Aruldoss to be new American College principal

MADURAI: In a major set back to the principal of American College, M Davamani Christober, the government council of the institution has asked him to step down from the post.

The government council has also appointed vice-principal J Aruldoss as the principal in-charge. The decision of the government council comes in the wake of the Madurai bench of the Madras high court quashing the appointment of Christober as the college principal.

  1. Rev. J. Aruldoss is one of my good friends. He could be the Principal of the College in due course but not at the Present moment. When Chinnaraj Joseph retired as Principal Dr. Anbudurai was the duly appointed Vice-Principal of the properly constituted Governing Council of the College. The appointment of Dhavamani is now declared illegai. With that every appointment made with him as Principal gets wiped out. How can Rev. J. Aruldoss be considered as Vice-Principal when the duly appointed Vice Principal Dr. Anbudurai is still around?

  2. I do endorse the views of Prof.V.Srinivasan. All along,we have been fighting for the American College to be as it has been-as a church related and not a church-controlled institution and for its Constitution to be followed in letter and spirit. As per the Constitution, with the retirement of the Principal, Chinnaraj Joseph, the then 'duly appointed Vice-Principal of the properly constituted Governing Council of the College became Principal-in-Charge and, legally speaking, he continues to be so. With the quashing of the illegal appointment of Davamani Christober by an equally illegal Governing Council constituted by his father-in-law, the late Bishop Christopher Asir, every other appointment done with him naturally becomes null and void.
It is very strange that, in a hurriedly convened press meet, a group of people calling themselves members of Action Committee for Protecting American College Constitution (ACPAC)led by the former Principal Chinnaraj Joseph, made a suggestion that the present Governing Council Chairman- Moderator, Devasahayam should convene it and as per rules should appoint the present Vice-Principal as Principal-in-Charge. (Dhinamani, 16-10-2012)
These suggestions are blatantly anti-constitutional because,as per the Constitution (a) only the Principal who is also Secretary is entitled to to convene the Governing Council and NOT the Chairman of the Governing Council and (b) the question of appointing a Principal-in-charge doesn't arise at all because there is already one- Dr.Anbudurai.
Let not personal prejudices and hidden agenda, if any, be allowed to deviate us from the noble goal we have been fighting for- to protect and preserve this glorious institution, with its ideals, traditions and Constitution in tact.

  4. I do endorse the view of Prof.V.Srinivasan and more the opinions given by Prof. D.Samuel Lawrence.

It will be the right time for Dr. Anubudurai to be proactive and claim his rightful place in the college, the PRINCIPALSHIP.

If some people are 'over enthusiastic' to pave way for the wrong people to get into the 'chair', the rightful people should not backtrack from their duties.

Set the foot right in, please.

  6. Prof. RAJENDRA PANDIAN writes ...

They say a self-centered individual toiling to make fortunes for himself contributes to the wealth of the nation as well. That is how the “invisible hand”—as Adam Smith might phrase it—is at work in serving the larger cause by serendipity. Indeed, Dr.David Amirtharajan who felled Dr.Davamani Christober—not necessarily to save the college from one wrong person but to become the Principal with the help of ten such—has helped the college with a breather. Many thanks to him.

But, needless to say, the danger of this institution being stolen by a band of "thieves" is looming large as before—especially when a former Principal, a counsel, and a council-member seem very confused over who they represent; what they do and what they should.

Dr. Anbudurai, with all our support to restore the college, should strike—now.

  7. Poits in favour of Dr. Anbudurai: When the then Bishop of DMR appointed Mr. George Selvakumar and ignited the trouble about 3 years ago it was Dr. Anbudurai who stood firm with Chinnaraj and faught the tough battle. It was he who held the Flint house flock together and helped the College work to proceed. It was he who managged to get the Government staff in his flock receive their salary including arrears. It was he by a tactful move got the mamagement staff to receive their pay. If people don't recognize these it is only unfair.
