A TENSE DAY ...ORDEAL CONTINUES .........
Time now is 12.30 (IST). I am at home. Got a phone call few minutes back from colleagues who stayed put in the campus after a complete tension-filled day.
The information that i got is this:
At 7.30 p.m. Bursar, Christopher had forcefully entered the campus, breaking the lock of the front gate. Tried with a group of thugs to enter Principal's room which was halted by a few staff who had been there around our Main Hall. By this time students from all hostels - including ladies' hostel - rushed to Main Hall and sat in the verandah and started shouting slogans in support of the college. In response, girl students from dental college (Daughter-bishop is the principal of that institution.) and little girls from O.C.P.M. School under Bishop have been brought in and they were sitting at the front gate inside the campus blocking the entry. Neither people can come in or go out.
Police officials who have come to "compromise" are putting the very first condtion - our studnents should go back to hostels. And then staff can lock the principal's office and go away. Then they will ask Bursar and his cronies to leave the place. It is nothing but leaving a good chance for the Bursar and his cronies to break open and occupy Principal's office without any problem. Police were found to be very cooperative and supporting earlier at the higer level. But now the lower level police who have come for bandobust are of, it appears, a different ilk. Their (in)direct support appears to be with the Bursar. பணம் பாதாளம் மட்டும் பாயுமாமே; பத்தும் செய்யுமாமே!
Principal contacted the District Collector, Mr. Jawahar. After Collector's emmissary, the R.D.O. came the situation is slightly better, I hear.
This is going to be a long night for my colleagues and students who are keeping the evil forces of the Bursar at bay ...

ReplyDeleteI believe that its time that the Govt. interferes and bring an end to this pathetic situation and help the students as this no longer a institutional issue but rather a public scandal.Thanks samg for the update.

ReplyDeleteThe American College is one of the important college in Tamil Nadu and it is known for its academic atmosphere. I think it's because the kind of teachers, students and also the non teaching staff, esp. their commitment and sincerity to their work. It's the responsibility of all of us to stand behind the College in this issue seriously and we shouldnt allow these kind of fanatic elements inside the college.
