AN OBITUARY

*

Our friend Rajkumar of Physics Dept.  has passed away very suddenly. Heart attack says Dr. Mala. It is sad he was picking up fast in Aravind too and was making a good impact there also. He had already visited two countries (Antigua and Kenya) and had run courses there. He will be missed and it is very hard to find a replacement.

  1. I got the sad news at 9 am this morning and immediately I sent a quick note to some of the friends of Rajkumar. The brief note has been used as obituary note. Thanks. However I wish to add a few more details about Rajkumar to make the obituary note complete more complete. Mr. Rajkumar is a born repair man. Even as a school boy he could repair radio receivers. Many may not know. In the good old says one needed to have a license issued by the Government through Post Offices to have radio and a repair man should have a special license because there will be more than one receiver at his place. Rajkumar was one of those with that extra license. Later in his career he was part of DAS (Department of Applied Physics) of American College. The only department of its kind to help in building instruments for science research. Instruments built by him were used extensively in the Biology Department of Madurai Kamaraj University, Agricultural University campus in Madurai, Madurai Medical College etc. The first defibrillator for use in Madurai Medical College was built by him. I am happy he was able to join Aravind Eye Hospital after I retired and continued his work. His demise is a loss to the field. May his soul rest in peace. The instruments that remain unused in his absence will miss him most besides his family and friends.
