PROF. V. SRINIVASAN LAMBASTS 'THE HINDU'

*

PROF. V. SRINIVASAN lambasts 'THE HINDU' for its uncouth and inexplicable ways in this letter addressed to readers-editor of The Hindu:

Dear Readers Editor:

It has been a very tough situation in The American College, Madurai for over a month. Several news papers and some TV Channels had given the general public good coverage of the events. The Hindu had completely ignored the issue for reasons best known to the reporting and editorial staff in Madurai and Chennai. However on page 3 of The Hindu Madurai city edition of 8th May we find two advertisements for admissions for the year 2008 - 2009 over the signature of Dr. T. Chinnaraj Joseph signed as Principal and Secretary and on page 3 of the city edition of The Hindu 11th May we find the same two advertisement over the signature of Dr. V. George Selvakumar signed as Principal-in-Charge and Secretary.

Who according to The Hindu is administering the College? Should not the Editorial staff & Manager, Advertisements who I am sure are aware of the situation through other news papers like The New Indian Express check before publishing the second advertisement? I happen to know that George Selvakumar has been under suspension as per government records and he did not receive his full pay last month. As per the Government records the Secretary of the College is Dr. T. Chinnaraj Joseph. What The Hindu has done just to earn some advertisement money is very mean.

.........Srinivasan

Yes it is a woe to the indian democracy and particularly the print journalism where money counts - If the Pricipal gives away money to the reporters then he will have a wonderful one page report even - The reporters irrespective of the company they belong to including kasturi and sons, they are fond of gifts in kind and cash.
I had hosted quite a good number of public programs when i had given away gifts ranging from "Silver" pens to cell phones to carry a snap and a write up about the functions held. Print media is known for its ranking of B schools and stuffs like that that goes with weighty gifts and mementos.

    Well said sir.
I still wonder how can a reputed daily like 'The Hindu' that too has a publishing centre in Madurai is quite ignorant on the facts and happenings.
It is a pity that a college that has served the society for more than 127 years is not receiving its due attention by the dailies in general.
A reporter from 'The Hindu' was in the campus right in the Principal's room interviewing him on 19th (April 2008) late evening when the 'storming' incedent took place. The same reporter witnessed the events from the begining till 3 am the following day. The irony is NOTHING was published on the following days about the incidents the reporter witnessed.

not surprise to read about the so called reputed daily thehindu. everyone knows it is mouth piece of CPM (read: people's voice) and all administrators ( in other states, for example DMK in TN)who are in power. but the tragedy is: earlier I thought, based on their reporting on Nandigram and Singur, they have to defend their 'comrades in Red (read: terror)'. but now We understand that any body whoever has some money to 'pay' N.Ram & co can get any kind of coverage. tomorrow, he,N. Ram, will come and speak about 'the role of media in democratic India'.
    VEKKANKETTAVARKAL!
    WHAT ELSE i CAN SAY?
