Moderator meets rival groups to restore peace in American College
Positive developments took place at American College here on Thursday following an initiative taken by Moderator of Church of South India (CSI) G. Devakataksham who visited the college to restore peace and normality in the campus.
His visit to the college assumed significance since he is also the Bishop in-charge of Diocese of Madurai and Ramnad and president of the American College Governing Council. Mr. Devakataksham spent nearly three hours meeting representatives of both the factions who are fighting over the college management since 2008. There was a ray of hope in both the camps that the Moderator will be able to restore normality in Madurai's historic educational institution.
A positive mood prevailed in the campus as representatives of teaching/non-teaching staff eagerly met the Bishop in-charge at the American College Governing Council Meeting Chamber. Information about his visit to the college and purpose of his visit were displayed on the notice board. It said that faculty members and non-teaching staff who have grievances may express them in person and the Moderator's visit was in pursuance to the wish of American College Governing Council. Both M. Davamani Christober, Principal and Secretary, whose appointment is being challenged by rival group leader PR.Anbudurai who claims himself to be Principal in-charge, have said that something positive would happen with the visit of college president. “We are pleading with him to end the stalemate in American College because the issue is going on from 2008,” Dr.Anbudurai told The Hindu .
On the other side, Dr. Davamani Christober has said that the positive development as a result of the Moderator visit was that he was meeting all the rival parties and groups who have been waiting to give a vent to their feelings. “We are happy that everyone got a chance to express their grievances. His visit only reaffirms that all disputing parties in our college are accepting him and his intervention.” Similar views were expressed by various other staff members also and a common appeal that came from every quarter was that both sides must first trust each other before going for talks so that the issues can be solved harmoniously.
Another appeal was that the college management and well-wishers of American College must take adequate steps to prevent unauthorised persons from entering the campus since academic institutions have place only for staff and students.

The Head of the CSI has finally waked up!
ReplyDeleteLet us pray that he sees the Principal-in-Charge as the correct head of the College, and then moves a correctly-constituted Governing Council to establish this unambiguously.
Love to all who support the traditional administration.
Prof. R.P. Riesz (retired)
Real and lasting peace and normalcy can be restored on the campus by the present Moderator of the C.S.I. only if he accepts the fact that this is a church-related and not a church-controlled institution as its selfless Founding Fathers willed it to be - as expressed in its motto, incorporated in its Constitution and manifested in its glorious tradition of serving the society for more than 130 years. Let him know that the now four-year old struggle is all about preserving, protecting and saving the individuality and autonomy of this great college.
ReplyDeleteProf. RAJENDRA PANDIAN writes ....
ReplyDelete//Both M. Davamani Christober, Principal and Secretary, whose appointment is being challenged by rival group leader PR.Anbudurai who claims himself to be Principal in-charge….//
How come Mr.Mallady, who, with abundant caution, refers to Dr.Anbudurai as one “who claims himself to be the Principal-in-charge” simply declares Dr.Davamani Christober the “Principal and Secretary”? What does the scribe try to suggest by stating that Dr.Christober’s appointment is challenged [only] by Dr.PR.Anbudurai? Does he try to project as if the appointment contested by one person or one group were already approved and endorsed by many such as the University, Directorate of Collegiate Education, and the Registry of Societies? Can he mention at least one relevant agency that has approved Dr.Christober’s appointment so far? Why should a newsman from a well acclaimed daily write like this? I would appreciate if the reporter was a bit more sober and impartial to mention Dr.Christober also as ‘one who claims himself to be the Principal and Secretary, whose appointment is yet to be approved....”
Well, I have read a few times about our college issue in “The Hindu” as reported by Mr.Mallady. His dexterity at mixing substance and subterfuge is interesting.
1.It is obvious that Mr. Mallady has been one sided in various reports on The American College. I hope he is not in the pay roll of old Bishop's team. The oen way we can teach him and The Hindu a lesson is for some of the readers of The Hindu switching over to other news papers( The New India Express, Deccan Herald or Times of India) and convey The Hindu why they do do. I am sure The Hindu will inderstand.
ReplyDelete2. Would some one forward the comment of Dr. R. P. Riesz to the Moderator?
The following letter has been sent to 'readerseditor@thehindu.co.in' of the hindu
ReplyDeleteSir,
A report about our college, The American College, reported by SHASTRY V. MALLADY in The Hindu on 23 Mrach, 2012 has been posted in my blog - http://americancoll.blogspot.in/2012/03/moderator-meets-rival-groups.html#comment-form. Of the comments, the third and fourth are from Prof. RAJENDRA PANDIAN and Prof. V.SRINIVASAN.
If those two comments are read, and even if ane one is not following the happenings in the college, one can easily infer that the report is out and out a partial one taking the side of one of the contenders for the post of the Principal of the college.
The accusation of Prof. Rajendra Pandian (His dexterity at mixing substance and subterfuge is interesting.) on Mr. Mallady is true and his reports many a time form a 'malady' for us. It will be far better if he keeps the ground realities in his mind during reporting.
GOOD. I hope The Hindu publishes it. They usually do not. VS
DeleteThe Poisonous Venom called The Hindu should be given severe punishments. Boycotting it completely is one such important way. We need to find out other ways too. If one gives money they will publish any shit. (I am sorry to say such words) They should better change their name as PAID NEWS!
