Exams to be held in college

Madurai Kamaraj University, on Tuesday, came forward to conduct semester examinations for students of American College here.
The decision was taken at the Academic Council meeting.
The college issue was the first adjournment motion taken up for discussion at the meeting chaired by Syndicate member P. Gunasekaran (in the absence of Vice-Chancellor).
R. K. Alagesan, member, moved a resolution demanding the university to take steps for conducting the November-2011 semester examinations which could not be conducted owing to conflict between two factions of the college. Dr. Alagesan said that the university could not keep away from American College criisis by saying that it was an atuonomous / minority institution. R. Murali, Principal, Madura College, said that even though the college was an autonomous institution, the university was the supreme authority and hence it could give a direction.
The members said that university could supervise the entire process through its observers like the way it did in April last year.
S.Perumal, university nominee in the college governing council earlier, indicated that all was not well in the issue of Principal appointment in the college.

Dr.Alagesan has done it again. I distinctly remember the sincere and tenacious efforts he took, as a member of the Academic Council, to persuade the University to conduct the long-pending examinations, last April/May. He and all those who helped in taking this decision deserve to be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThe University nominee in the College governing council S.Perumal's observation that all was not well in the issue of Principal appointment in the College has also come as a shot in the arm for all those fighting for the College.
The University and the Government should shake off their apathy and explode the myth of the invulnerability of the autonomous/minority institution by taking strong steps immediately to restore normalcy in the College.
