Folks,
There is a political magazine in Tamil by name - நெற்றிக் கண் - the third eye. Oh ..
that does not mean a 'photographic eye'! It is the ‘burning eye’ on Lord Shiva’s
forehead!
Days back there was an article in this magazine relating
to one of our teachers. The
article sought to malign the character of the professor’s wife in an effort to
tell that the couple misused their residence on the college campus. But in the very next issue, a related article
took a different turn, accusing that wrong information was given to its
reporter by Davamani Christober—the present occupant of our college Principal’s
chair, apparently to drive them out of
the quarters. It was admitted that the magazine was carried away by the false
and misleading info wantonly given to it.
Since I found the articles not worth mentioning in our
college blog I simply ignored them. However the third issue very pointedly
accuses Christober of nefarious dealings
and high handedness in getting what he
wanted by any means. An
extensive coverage of his ‘academic achievements’ is also given in the
magazine. And the way he
captured the principalship has also been explained in the article. Though
nothing is new in all that, I thought it can be quoted here for the benefit of
our viewers. So here is the scanned copy of the article.
Let me translate some sentences in the third article,
leaving out the unsavoury first two.
The title: AN
UNLEARNED GUY – Principal of the American College?
· On the basis of a false certificate he
has captured the post of principal
· Passed his school final in 3 attempts.
· Completed his degree with a few
attempts
· Had arrears in 5 papers in his PG
course
· His two Ph.D. guides were from the
education department and none from math. He managed to get temporary stay on
the case regarding his academic qualification.
· It is wrong on the part of the Syndicate
of Madurai University to have passed a resolution granting him condonation.
· Even the
name of the Vice chancellor of the Madurai University has been mentioned as the
one who was allegedly bribed with “cash
and jewels” to give him qualification-approval.

BUT I WOULD APPRECIATE CHRISTOBER FOR ALL HIS
PERSEVERANCE !!
HE WANTED TO CONTINUE HIS STUDIES IN SPITE OF SO MANY
FAILURES...
HE WANTED TO BE ON THE PRINCIPAL CHAIR OF OUR COLLEGE.
HE DID IT !!!
LET THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS - whatever it could be !!! - GREAT PHILOSOPHY
HE DID IT !!!
LET THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS - whatever it could be !!! - GREAT PHILOSOPHY
REAL BRAVE HEART.......... !!
That a person like Davamoni Christober, with no scruples, ability and experience , but with dismal and dubious 'academic achievements' could become the Principal and continue to survive 'successfully' so long, is a sad commentary on the depths to which the academic community of the College has fallen, forsaking principles and making compromises. But, all is not lost. A determined and committed few could definitely reverse this trend and restore the College to its original glory.
ReplyDeleteDSL,
ReplyDelete//That a person like Davamoni Christober, with no scruples, ability and experience ..//
I go with you for two of the three things you have said: scruples, and experience . yep, has got a lot of ABILITY to pull most of the the academic community of the College with him.
i too accept that most of //the academic community of the College has fallen, forsaking principles and making compromises// under his foot! so sad ....
//But, all is not lost.//
this is the only HOPE...

ReplyDeleteI am an old student belonging to early 80s (81/Zoo/30). Recently four of my UG classmates met at Chennai after 30 years and discussed a lot. It was very joyful moment. Everyone shared their experience in life both ups and downs. All of us mentioned at one point of time or other that I would have not achieved this success if I would have not studied in American College. Still we are recalling our strength, courage and confidence which were boosted in American college. Such a great college is taken for ride by few people and the head of the institution is 22nd Pullikesi.
I strongly feel though, we are discussing a lot, the people who are all currently working and studying in the college only can bring the change in reality. I am not underestimating the efforts being taken by many people, ex professors etc. This will work as an additional support. To achieve any tangible success, the likeminded teaching staffs and non-teaching staffs should join together and protest aggressively.
I have one more point to add in this. The journalist who ever drafted the script (Nakeeran Tamil version) has mentioned a comment about religion at the end. This is not acceptable. He is adding fuel to fire.

How and why "most of the Academic Community of the College with him" that becomes Puriyatha Puthir for me!
ReplyDeleteThe community behind him and backing him cannot be called academic. Can any one point out an academic out come, a discovery, a publication, an academic recognition of any one behind the present administration?
