DECISIVE ACT OF GOD

A DECISIVE MARCH TO .....?!

When I came to know the demise of the Bishop Christopher Asir from a friend, I did not know how to react to that. We have been told, time and again, that when a person passes away, traditional courtesy demands that we don't speak ill of him. In condolence meetings also, speakers vie with each other to praise the person concerned to the skies. So, there is certainly a lot of inevitable hypocrisy in such a situation.

To be honest I cannot say that I was sad when I came to know this news. In fact, there was a sense of relief in the thought that at least hereafter, the three-year old struggle to save the American College from this Bishop, would gather momentum and proceed quickly towards a just and honorable resolution. Some strange voice within me seemed to endorse the already active thought that this was nothing but God's own act of intervention to save His institution at the right time. It appeared to me as if God had given a long rope to the Bishop to see whether there would be any sign of remorse resulting in an effort to retrace his steps. And having failed to see any change, He decided to strike hard and decisively.

If I am not able to bring myself to feel sad it is mainly because he was bent upon destroying its traditions, subverting its constitution and bringing it under his control. This he did so very unscrupulously, without any sense of shame or regret, using money power and muscle power that one wondered how a Bishop, vested with the sacred duty of spreading the kingdom of Justice and Truth, could indulge in such blatantly heinous acts. Even now, it has not been possible for me to reconcile to the idea of a Bishop entering a College campus with rowdy elements, break open the lock of the Principal's office and 'anoint' a puppet  as the Principal, drawing a cross on his forehead  and gloat over this 'achievement'. ( The picture published in the blog by Dharumi is the most meaningful one which captures the evil in its utter darkness and its chief perpetrators in their heinous act).

This decisive act of God of removing the chief enemy of the College, is a happy reminder that ultimately good will triumph over evil.

  4. There is a tradition in all army right from the the time of the great war of Ramayana. When a enemy soldier is killed his body is given the same respect due as the dead body of a fellow soldier. If a enemy soldier is wounded he may be taken as a prisioner but is given the same medical trweatment as a fellow soldier. Let us remember this. The man (Bishop) is no more. Even if we don't mourn his death people should not give an impression that they are happy or welcome his death however evil he may be. No one can be happy over the death of any one. VS

  5. @V.Srinivasan: I accept your views but I cannot agree the comparison that you have made. The bishop in no way could be compared with a soldier. To be honest, the first emotions which I got on hearing the news was a sigh of relief and happiness though I felt sorry for his demise later.
