A LETTER FROM Prof. SRINIVASAN
Dear Dick:
In 2012 I had a dream. I dreamt of a grand celebration
of the 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) of PGP. I started collecting
the mail ids of our old students and friends and started making contacts for a
grand celebration on 13th July 2013. Man proposes and God disposes. Suddenly I
discovered in Jan 2013 that I had to migrate to Thane for health and
family reasons. After I left Madurai I could not
find one in Madurai
who could push the present Principal of American College to extend the formal
invitation to Dr. Riesz to be in the College for the celebration. However
a few PGP students in USA
picked up the thread from where I left and had a nice celebration in that
country.
Not satisfied with that event I wanted to do something great
and more impressive. It was at that stage our Simon came with the wonderful
suggestion that a recognition from a national science body like the Indian
National Science Academy (INSA), New
Delhi would be a fitting tribute to Dr. Riesz's
contribution to Physics Education in this part of the world.
Simon prepared the nomination with some input from me and G.
S and I am happy to say that at a meeting of the IASA Council at Tiruppathi
held yesterday the names of awardees for the year 2013 has been announced. It
is now public in the website of INSA (Copy of the page attached). The formal
official intimation may reach Dr. Riesz in due course. I wish to thank Simon
first for the suggestion and then for getting the elaborate nomination form
filled with all details to be submitted on time. I know he was racing with time
with some pressure of work in his family at that time and the nomination
reached New Delhi
with his signature just on the last date set for the nomination.
DR. RIESZ THIS RECOGNITION IS THE
BEST CELEBRATION OF YOUR WORK IN MADURAI.
With kind regards, Srinivasan

Right recognition, to the right person, for the right reason!
ReplyDeleteAt a time when all sorts of unknown awards from unheard-of agencies are door delivered to dubious scholars, theologians, and administrators on a ‘buy-one-take-one basis’, Dr. Riesz’s nomination for a prestigious federal honor, if I’m right, is a timely reminder to all of us of the true standards of the traditional American College under its traditional administrations.
Hearty congratulations to Dr. Riesz, the one who did it and Mrs. Riesz, the woman behind!
Great! You have remembered the role of Mrs. Riesz. Thanks
DeleteI am really happy to know that the sincere and strong efforts taken by both Prof. V.Srinivasan and Prof. Simon to honour our dear and respected Dr. Riesz, for his contribution to Physics Education in this part of the world have borne fruit. Truly, Dr. Riesz, richly deserves this- INSA TEACHERS AWARD-2013. My hearty congratulations to him.
ReplyDeleteTrue that through his creative initiatives, deep scholarship and sustained hard work, he brought The American College into limelight as an important and famous Centre of Physics Studies and Research. And, what strikes me most about him is his sincere and steadfast love for the College, even now, manifesting itself in various ways, when this great institution is passing through difficult times, with unworthy elements being at the helm of affairs, unfortunately

I congratulate Dr. Reisz on receiving the INSA award which he richly deserves. It is a matter of joy and pride not only for the individual concerned but the institution and the community. Needless to say, it strengthens us at this testing time and renews our resolve to carry on the fight until the college is fully restored.
On behalf of every one of us, I thank the INSA for conferring this award on Dr. Reisz. I do appreciate Prof. VS, Dr. Simon and all others for their initiative.
I wish this venerable teacher good health and long life.

I personally feel great on the recognition and honour on Dr. R.P.Riesz, a member of the teaching community of The American College of yesteryears. He has been a source of sustained inspiration to the budding students in physics. It is also quite pleasant to note that the educational sector of the Indian Government has chosen a right person for the right honour in awarding Dr.R.P.Riesz the INSA TEACHERS AWARD 2013
I also recall my very personal contacts with Dr. R.P.Riesz in many of the very progressive contributions to the knowledge in Science in our college for a long number of years.
I wish him and Mrs. Riesz very pleasant days ahead.
It is my pleasure to join with the American College community to congratulate Dr. R. P. Riesz, chosen to receive the prestigious INSA award. Dr. Riesz, a pioneer in Physics education, a committed missionary and an outstanding leader, who worked over a half century to build the Physics Department of the American College, Madurai. It is time for the college community to recollect his contributions to the college, especially his pioneering role in designing the college autonomy in India along with Dr. M.A. Thangaraj, another great Physics teacher and Former Principal of the American College.
ReplyDeleteI am particularly thankful to him for his continuous support to me and friends of the college, who are still fighting to uphold the constitution of the college.
INSA award to Dr. Riesz came at the right time when the PG Physics Department is completing 50 Years of service to the nation. I thank Prof.V.S.and Dr. Simon for their efforts to Honor Dr. Riesz.
Thank you Dr. Risez for all that you have done for us.
