Prof. RAJENDRA PANDIAN appeals ..........
Besides
appealing to the Governing Council I think we can also urge the
stakeholders abroad to think about doing whatever is possible to contain
the situation. We need to place it before them as a strong
plea—Prof.DSL may recall that we discussed it months ago.
Our friends
overseas have not been secretive about their support to the college as
it is originally theirs: they are the founders of the college and the
donors of its property. Even if they are not involved in
“micromanaging” the college on its every day affairs this is the most
exigent hour when the Council members may need their backing. Like how
they have been reacting on the blogs against this encroachment from the
CSI they can also work to make their voice heard by these land-grabbers,
their colluders and
others concerned.
I
recall how the late Bishop rather naively remarked in a Council meeting
that he hadn’t heard of anything like the Board of Trustees until they
wrote to him from the US asking about the commotion that erupted
following the appointment of Dr.Chinnaraj Joseph as Principal. We must
ensure that the Trustees as an important constituency of stake holders
of this college is known to and reckoned with by the government and the
courts of law. Their view and will on the issue should be made available
to the individuals and agencies involved in the resolution. As a step
toward that the Board may officially correspond with the brokers of the
dubious deal and make it known that they cannot rob Peter to pay Paul.*
That is GOOD. Please write to Dr. R P Riesz who is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of American College in USA at present. If a number of you could join and send a joint statement/appeal I am sure it would work. The initiative should be from sane minded people like you. God bless you. VS
ReplyDeletea good idea.
ReplyDeleteif it is to take further shape, i would also like to be a party of it.
It is true that a suggestion and request was made to Dr.Riesz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, to send a letter to the Moderator, on the 2nd of March, making their position clear and asking him not to let the Church usurp the administrative control of the College. (This was done on the basis of his earlier positive and prompt response in this regard.)But, I think, because of health reasons, there was no communication from him then.
ReplyDeleteAs one with deep and abiding concern for the College, I am sure that he would definitely take the steps necessary to intervene at this time when things seem to go out of control. A joint appeal should be made to the Trustees as early as possible.

ReplyDeleteshall we do this now?
Mr. Lawrence is wrong. The trustees to the best of my knowledge can only administer funds from the various endowments made in USA by the generous donors for the College. They cannot dictate or direct the locals the College has been given to the 'locals'. There is nothing one can do now except the wait and hope for the best from the moderator and the Bishop to be appointed. I hope the management staff who were with Dr. Anbudurai have received their first full salary this month. That is the first achievement. The next achievement will be getting the meeting of the correct Governing Council and the next will be making sure that among the nominated members only correct people (who will support the Colleg and not the Bishop or the few old and existing faculty members with vested interests). Still I believe God will save the College. It is a great institution to be destroyed by any. Srinivasan
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect to my dear friend, Prof.V.Srinivasan, I may be permitted to point out the glaring contradiction between what he has written in the first comment and this one. In the first one, he says, "Please write to Dr.R.P.Riesz.......... If a number of you could join and send a joint statement/appeal I am sure it would work". I have only endorsed this. But, now, he says, "They (The Trustees) cannot dictate or direct the locals the College has been given to the 'locals'. There is nothing one can do now except the wait and hope for the best from the moderator and the Bishop to be appointed".
ReplyDeleteWhile appreciating his consistency and optimism, I do wish to point out, in my own humble way, that if we are really interested in the College, there is nothing wrong in exploring all possible avenues to redeem it from the mess it finds itself in now. Achievements apart, is it not our moral duty to protect and preserve the individuality of the College?
May I also remind him that God helps only those who help themselves.
Dictate is different from appeal. Srinivasan
