Three days back, there was a two- full page advertisement in
the local English dailies heralding a big business venture in our town,
Madurai. GOLDEN LOTUS has advertised on the Boomi-buja on that day for a
largest apartment complex in Madurai. Lavish advertisements. Lot of groovy
pictures of the complex. Visitors were provided with grand lunch. Visitors were
taken around the area in a battery-car. Lovely huge models of the buildings
were there. North Indian owners of the complex were quite busy. A busy place
with a huge project coming up in Madurai. Told that it would be the tallest
building in Madurai. Each flat would
cost more than a crore rupees. Sounds great .... is it not?
All this happened in the grounds of RATCHANYA PURAM. Does any bell ring …?
C.S.I. has been donated a big place in the northern part of
Madurai. Later local government added some more land – with the assurance that
this place HAS TO BE USED only for helping the destitute women and orphaned
children – that is continuing the original philanthropic part played by the
church in that place.
There was a big legal tussle when there was a rumour that
this place donated by the Government has been sold out unlawfully by the
earlier bishop, Asir. Efforts were taken to redeem that land. Even in dailies
there was news that the earlier collector of Madurai, Sahayam was making
enquiries on this selling of the land. It was the fervent hope of many that justice would be done, since it is Sahayam who was making the enquiries. Some even now say that the matter is
still subjudice or under enquiry.
Now comes the tallest building on the very same ground, say
the papers. I am just wondering why did
the voices which made so much noise earlier against the sale of this ground
become meek now. Wondering why not even some PIL against this
……………………………
Karaikudi university said that the Ph.D. awarded by it to
Christober is not an interdisciplinary degree. Already UGC has given a
condition for a principal to have Ph.D in his own subject or atleast a Ph.D. in
a relevant interdisciplinary subject. I thought
it was 2 + 2. What else other than 4 could be an answer. At least that was what
I thought.
But the court was so inefficient that it could not come to a conclusion
that 2 + 2 = 4 ! Instead it asked the Madurai University to decide on this. Not enough good mathematicians there in the
Senate I suppose, since the university
also could not find the correct answer for 2 + 2.
The degree considered
non-interdisciplinary by one university was then considered my MKU as
interdisciplinary and all that.
I just wonder how even the basic
math - 2 + 2 = 4 – is decided other way by the court, university and all !
